We have four walks on Tuesday, an ‘A’ walk, an ‘A-‘ walk, a ‘B’ walk and a ‘C’ walk. All four grades of walk are held every Tuesday throughout the year.
All the Tuesday walks meet in the car park of Pluck’s pub (formerly the Glencormac Inn) in Kilmacanoge at 10.00 am, ready for departure as soon after that as possible. However, please note that the pub doesn’t open until 10am, so if you find the gates shut on arrival, please wait until 10am when they open. If you take the next right turn after the pub entrance, before the small roundabout, (heading towards Roundwood) you will find limited parking at the back of church or in the nearby housing estate, for a SHORT time only.
‘C’ Walks are the easiest of our walks. They are usually 3.5 to 4 hours long and although at a relaxed pace, still require a reasonable level of fitness, and will involve some walking uphill as well as on the flat.
The ‘B’ Walks are at an intermediate level and for those who already have some hillwalking experience and are generally up to about 15 km in length and about 6 hours in duration. The pace is fairly relaxed, there will be two stops for a bite to eat, plus there’ll be plenty of time to look around and to take a breather and/or admire the scenery now and then. Most walking will be along established forest and mountain tracks, but there may be some occasional walking across open ground.
PLEASE NOTE: Currently the Tuesday ‘B’ Walk is oversubscribed, and we are not accepting any new members.
The Tuesday A- walks will have an average length of 18k, with 2 short breaks, and the terrain includes paths and rough ground in the Wicklow Hills as well as some lowland walks, especially in poor weather conditions. There may also be occasional trips outside the Wicklow area. The leaders and the walks are varied as much as possible, leaders being appointed in advance, and the walks being circulated on the group’s WhatsApp by the previous Sunday. The pace is brisk but comfortable with an emphasis on fun and camaraderie with the added bonus of a good workout! New members are most welcome!
The Tuesday A walks are a bit more demanding than the B walks – approx 15 – 22k and generally 5-6 hours duration, so a certain level of fitness and experience is desired. Walks are on tracks and also cover rough, muddy hill terrain, often with steep climbs and descents. Any new member wishing to join is made most welcome and need not be fearful of being left behind. If, after a few walks with the A group, they continue to find the pace too fast, they can of course drop to B+ or B level. We have 2 stops to rest and eat and we have great discussions and lots of fun along the way.
